Your Sales Brochure Looks Good. Does It Help Close the Deal?

September 9, 2026

The meeting went well, so your sales lead sent the brochure PDF on WhatsApp that evening. A week later, the prospect’s finance head opens it between two other calls. Page one is a drone shot of your plant, with “Since 1998” in gold underneath. Page two promises end-to-end solutions with a customer-first approach. She still cannot tell whether you can fix the problem her team raised.

Very little of what impressed everyone at the internal review helps her now. Good sales brochure design is planned for this reader, alone with the PDF and deciding whether to call you back.

Your Brochure Does Most of Its Work Without You

Your sales team is present for a small slice of the decision. Gartner research found that B2B buyers spend just 17% of their buying time meeting potential suppliers, and every vendor on the shortlist shares that slice. With three in the running, each gets a little over 5%.

Everything else happens in internal meetings and forwarded emails. A brochure that only makes sense with a salesperson beside it will not survive that stretch. When it fails there, the deal rarely collapses in public. It goes quiet.

What Is Your Brochure Missing?

Planning to spend on brochure design services? Do this first. Give a printout and a red pen to someone in accounts, and ask them to mark any sentence a rival could have printed unchanged.

Whose Story Does Page One Tell?

Many company-first brochures spend the first pages on the founding story and the chairman’s message, while the buyer flips ahead looking for their own problem. Take a phrase like “fully automated CNC line”. It means something to your plant head. Hand the same page to a prospect’s procurement manager. Her question is whether repeat orders will reach her sooner, and nothing in the brochure answers it.

Would a Buyer Know Exactly What You Offer?

Count how often “innovative” or “customer-centric” shows up in your copy, then check a competitor’s brochure for the same words. Could a buyer describe your service to their boss in two sentences, without ringing your sales team first?

Where Is the Proof?

Client names, project volumes, certifications with dates and a short case outcome do more for a buyer’s confidence than any adjective. For real estate firms, the stakes are legal as well. Under Section 12 of RERA, a buyer who pays an advance on the strength of a false statement in an advertisement or prospectus can claim compensation, or withdraw with a full refund and interest.

Does the Page Tell the Eye Where to Go?

By Jakob Nielsen’s estimate, someone visiting a web page reads 28% of its text in the best case, and closer to 20% in practice. A 16-page PDF opened on a phone is unlikely to fare better. The headings and the opening line of each section do nearly all the talking. Read only those. Does the story hold up?

Company Profile, Capability Brochure or Sales Deck?

The company profile that works at a trade fair, where nobody knows your name yet, is the wrong thing to send after a pitch. By then the buyer wants detail on one service and a way to set you against the other two vendors on the list. A manufacturer’s capability brochure may need plant capacity and certifications on page one, while a sales presentation can save them for the appendix. Business brochure design should begin with one question: which stage of the sale is this piece for?

When the Copy Needs as Much Attention as the Layout

Watch how your sales team uses the current brochure. Do they skip pages in meetings? Does someone carry a one-page summary they made themselves? Often the copy was written after the layout was approved, just to fill the boxes.

Reverse that order. Next time you brief an agency for brochure design services, ask who writes the copy, and when. If the answer is “once the layout is ready”, the brochure copywriting will end up as box-filling again.

What Does a Brochure Review Involve?

Start with the PDF your sales team forwards most often. Our Content Services and Graphic Design teams will mark where a buyer would lose the thread. Then they rebuild the copy and page order together, with the visuals designed around the decision you want the reader to make. Talk to us about B2B sales brochure design and copywriting.
